Be Down To Earth, Or Be Brought Down

John BoyUk, 12 September

"Zeno always said that nothing was more unbecoming than putting on airs, especially with the young."
— Diogenes Laertius, Lives of the Eminent Philosophers

This is an interesting meditation today and I have written on numerous occasions in my "daily journals" of the dangers of becoming over confident, when your trading is going well.

Most traders will be able to tell you from experience, that if you become over confident and let your guard down, this can lead to a lack of focus and discipline and this is where the markets will gladly kick your ass, bringing you back down to earth with a resounding bump!

To make sure that you avoid this happening to you, you need to maintain your concentration, remaining fully focused and "in the zone" every time that you enter a trade. With a patient and disciplined approach, to keep yourself in check and not get ahead of yourself, you will be less likely to become hap hazard and make silly mistakes that you wouldn't normally make.

If you are on a good run of trading profits, then that is great, but you mustn't get carried away with this and stick to the task in hand at all times.

Remember that you are only as good as your last trade and one careless mistake can undo a lot of the hard work that you have put in. This can also knock your confidence and you will start to doubt your decision making.

Make sure that you keep your feet on the ground and put in the hard work every day that you turn up!

If you do this, you will be rewarded for your efforts.

So, do you want to "be down to earth, or be brought down" by the markets?

It's your call.
