It Is Well To Be Flexible

John BoyUk, 3 June

"He can't serve in the military? Let him seek public office. Must he live in the private sector? Let him be a spokesperson. Is he condemned to silence? Let him aid his fellow citizens by silent public witness. Is it dangerous to enter the Forum? Let him display himself, in private homes, at public events and gatherings, as a good associate, faithful friend, and moderate tablemate. Has he lost the duties of a citizen? Let him exercise those of a human being."
— Seneca, On Tranquility of Mind

Flexibility is also important for us as traders. A strategy that works for me and that I feel comfortable with, may not suit you and vice versa! This is why we need to be flexible enough to be able to try out various strategies and go with what we feel most comfortable with and then stick at it and learn it inside out, back to front. If we stick to the rules/criteria 100% and constantly practice, we will become more and more consistent and confident about using it.

I have a small number of strategies that I use. My horse racing strategy gives me the flexibility to be able to trade all year round. My football strategies are mainly just used in the top European leagues, which run between August and May. I am always flexible enough to look at other opportunities to trade, if it is something that I think could work for me. This would become a project to work on and develop as a strategy for the future.

I think "It is well to be flexible" in trading; as long as you don't overload yourself with too much. It's better to be great at a couple of things, than mediocre at many!
