Push For Deep Understanding

John BoyUk, 24 January

"From Rusticus . . . I learned to read carefully and not be satisfied with a rough understanding of the whole, and not to agree too quickly with those who have a lot to say about something."

— Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

When we look at today's meditation through the eye of the trader, the kind of deep reading and study we need to cultivate, is our rules and criteria for our strategies. The more we use our strategies, the more we develop an understanding and this means better execution of our trades. Yes it may be boring using the same strategy each day and you may see people using other strategies and think I'll give this a try. Nothing wrong in trying different things out, but I am a great believer in sticking to things that work for me over a period of time. The longer you stick at a strategy that is proven to work and as long as you stick to the rules of that strategy 100% of the time, you will be successful. Jumping from one strategy to another, can make your trading erratic and it's easy to get side tracked. So "Push for a deep understanding" of your strategies, by using them day in day out, rinse and repeat and don't be railroaded by the noise of others. Stick to your plan! You've got this; you can do it!
